6月15日 New BlogWell . . . I finally broke down and created a new blog for our family. I have been wanting to do this for some time now. Here is the link to our new blog: Our Family Stop by and visit us! 6月12日 I Should Know Better . . .I should know better . . . when it's really quiet in the house, I should know that someone is up to something. I was cleaning out the fridge today when I heard Hayden gasp. I ran around the corner to find this:
I put 3 bottles of paint on the top stair with intentions to take them down to the basement the next time I went down. Well . . . some little turkey got into them and had paint everywhere. I guess he is getting all the "terrible two's" out of him. Hopefully so! He has been so naughtly lately! I am starting to think I need "Super Nanny" to come and help me.
He tells me "No!" and hits all the time. When I ask him to do something, he says, "Why?". We go through this all day long. He has his only little language and I can't understand him all the time. If I ever say, "What?", then he yells it at me. I'm ready for the terrible twos to leave! Hopefully three will be better.
I made Keaton help clean up the mess and he was so proud! Thank goodness he kept most of the paint on the tile and kept it off of the carpet. I guess he did something right while creating this mess. I was painting some frames yesterday and he kept telling me he wanted to paint. I told him no, I guess he showed me. He can be such a cutie, but so defiant at times. What a little turkey!
6月7日 Happy June!Happy June! I can't believe it's June already! It definitely does not seem like June around here! Lot's of rain and not too warm!
My baby Keaton is turning 3 on the 13th! I cannot believe he is already turning 3! He has grown up so fast! He is a hoot! He loves to do whatever the older boys are doing! Funny how he picks up things they do. He loves to pitch, catch and bat! He loves riding his scooter like a maniac out in the circle. I swear one day he is going to biff it and it won't be pretty! He loves watching Sponge Bob Square Pants and likes trying to play Guitar Hero! What a funny kid!
The last day of school was on Thursday. The weather has been crazy, so it does not seem like school is over for us! Usually it is so hot you can't stand it. We don't have alot of plans for the summer, just more organizing our new home and we want to do some painting. We also want to get our yard under way.
Hayden is still playing baseball and will finish next week. He has been pitching and really likes that!
Jackson's baseball league is over, but has been invited to play on the Taylorsville High Sophomore Baseball Team for the summer. He is really excited about that! Jackson will also attend a Taylorsville High Basketball Camp with the THS Basketball Team all next week. I can't believe Jackson is going to be a Freshman next year. Wow, where does the time go?
Anyway . . . I still have more blogging to do about my brother-in-law's return from Iraq, the boy's awards from the end of school and Mom's retirement party. Always lots to do!
I hope everyone's summer is off to a great start!
5月13日 HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAYDEN!HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAYDEN!
I can't believe my little Hayden is 9 years old today! It's been a great 9 years! I am so proud of you and love you tons!
We celebrated Hayden's birthday last Friday night. Hayden invited some of his friends over. We took them to see the movie "Speed Racer" and then came back and had pizza and opened presents! It was fun!
On Sunday, we had our families over to celebrate Hayden's birthday as well as Mother's Day. Jason cooked dutch oven potatoes and chicken for everyone! It was yummy and we had a great time together!
Be sure to check out the photo album below with more family fun! 4月15日 15 Years! 3 children
2 deployments
4 moves
2 homes
2 college graduations
1 temple sealing
+ 1 truck
15 years of marriage
Tomorrow Jason and I will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary! I can't believe it's been 15 years! Happy Anniversary, Jason! I love you! It hasn't been the smoothest road, but we have learned alot and made the best of everything! Jason, you are a wonderful husband, friend, and father! I appreciate all you do for our family! You are a hard worker! You are the best! I love you tons!
Happy Anniversary!
4月6日 The Move Is Over! The move is over and needless to say, I am glad and relieved! You forget how much fun it is to move until you do it! It has been 11 years since the last time we moved. We are hoping this will be the last time!
We had quite a crew come and help us! We are indeed thankful for all of our family and friends that showed up to help! We had people show up to clean the old house, we had people cleaning, unpacking and organizing in the new house, we had lots of guys show up to load and unload the furniture. We had people running our kids to baseball and basketball. We had people out getting us all lunch. Thanks everyone - we couldn't have done it without you! After 5 loads in the horse tailer, several car loads and truck loads - everything is moved! Now we just have to organize and arrange everything here at our new home - we are getting close to having everything situated. I am hoping to take some photos and post them soon.
Jason and I both took Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off of work last week to finish up everything. We spent most of Monday finishing up the cleaning at our old home. I cleaned all of the blinds and we finished the painting that we have been meaning to do for quite some time. When it came time to leave the house, I felt really sad to leave. Lots and lots of memories were made in the home - ones we will never forget! We are so proud of that house - it was our very first one and we worked hard to make it nice. It was a perfect starter home for our family. Tuesday morning we had the carpets cleaned and we left. We left our keys, garage door openers and left 4840 Bonniebrook Drive for the last time. What a wierd feeling!
On to bigger and better things . . . it is SO nice to have space, space and more space! Can I just tell you how nice it is to have empty cupboards in my kitchen and laundry room? It is so nice to finally have 2 bathrooms! I do not know how we survived with only 1 for 11 years! I do not know where we had all of our stuff crammed! We are so excited about our new home and look forward to all the memories that will be made here!
3月28日 It's Official!Just wanted to let you all know that we closed on the sale of our home and the purchase of the new home last night. We are filled with a mix of emotions - excitement, sadness, joy, disbelief and the list goes on . .
We will hopefully be moving on Saturday. We have to wait for the official "go ahead" until after our loan funds - that will most likely be Friday morning. Jason and I both have Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off of work, too - we will be cleaning and finishing up everything at 4840 Bonniebrook Drive!
3月16日 Spring TrainingSpring training has begun at the Roper Residence! Jason told me to look out the window the other day to see Jackson giving baseball instruction to Hayden and Keaton. What a hoot!
Jackson decided not to play Taylorsville Baseball this year. He has started training at the Utah Baseball Academy. He will be playing with the Highlanders! His coach is Gary Pullins - a retired baseball coach from BYU. Jackson is very excited to get instruction from Coach Pullins - even though he is a COUGAR! We can overlook that he is a COUGAR - we are just glad he is actually getting some instruction this year! Gary Pullins was inducted in the College Baseball Hall of Fame last year. We feel very fortunate that Jackson has the opportunity of training with Coach Pullins. His first tournament will be in Mesquite April 4 - 5. We aren't sure if he will be able to make it due to our upcoming move.
Hayden will be playing on the Boston Red Sox this year. He is very excited and has already started practice! This will be a new venture for Hayden - he has now moved up to "kid pitch". He is used to "coach pitch".
Keaton is the bat boy and practices his batting technique with anything and everything he can find. He is always swinging a water bottle, a stick - whatever he has in his hand, he is swinging it! Keaton's favorite thing to do after school everyday is to get the bucket of balls, his bat and his helmet and head for the backyard. What a kid!
3月9日 PRICELESS!After waiting all day, Jim's flight finally arrived last night around 10:25 p.m. My heart was pounding as we all waited for him to walk through the terminal - I can imagine how Annie was feeling! This brought back alot of memories and emotions! It was so exciting and PRICELESS seeing Jim meet his son for the first time! It was great seeing their little family together! I hope they have a WONDERFUL 15 days together!
Check out my photo album at the bottom for more pics from Ryan's arrival and Jim's, too! 3月8日 Meet Ryan NielsonBaby Ryan just couldn't wait for his Daddy to get home from Iraq! Ryan was born on Sunday, March 2 at 5:14 p.m. weighing in at 7 lbs. 14 oz and was 20.5 inches long. My brother-in-law, Casey drove down to the hospital to set up a webcam. Unfortunately, Jim was not able to access the site because the military has such tight restrictions for their Internet. So Jim missed it! I felt so bad for both Jim and Annie. But they have great attitudes about it and Jim should arrive in Salt Lake City tonight! What a great reunion it will be! I am so happy for them! Baby Ryan is such a cutie!
2月27日 UpdateI haven’t done too well with the News Year’s Resolution of blogging! Life has been real busy! Thought it might be time to give an update on what we’ve been up to lately.
Our House: We are on offer #3. We got our first offer the end of January. We were so excited. After several counter-offers, we reached an agreement. We put a lot of emotion and energy into it. The potential buyers asked if we could help them make their down payment through a program called the Down Payment Assistance Program. They also asked us to pay their closing costs and asked for our refrigerator, washer and dryer. This real estate thing is totally new to us, but that offer was a bit offensive to us. When do you walk into someone’s house, ask them to pay your down payment, closing costs and request their appliances? We thought that was a bit pushy! I know the market is slow right now and you can get a great deal, but we felt that was basically taking advantage of us. We wondered if they would want the iron and the blow dryer, too! We were just so excited to get an offer - we worked with it - and made it work for us. Now, I wish we would have just put a big fat "REJECT" on it and returned to sender! We finally reached an agreement and when it came down to it, the couple backed out. We were crushed. We were hurt and real bummed! But . . . within 3 days we had another offer - that gave us hope. It was a great offer, but the only problem was they had to sell a condo. After back and forth with counter offers, we came to terms and sat and waited patiently for them to sell their condo - trying not to involve much emotion after offer #1 fell through. Well along came another couple. They knew we had our home under contract and offered us even more than we were asking. They are ready to move in and are approved for a loan. We accepted that offer and everything is moving forward. I hope I don’t jinx this, but if all goes well . . . we should be moving in to our new home the end of March. We are very excited and are crossing our fingers, legs and eyeballs that all goes well!
Keaton’s Finger: Last week we were busily working on Hayden’s Science Fair Project. We had out all the essentials: glue, paper, markers, scissors and the paper cutter. We turned our back for just a second and Keaton decided he needed to help with the paper cutter. He got his little finger caught in the rotary blade and went to yank it out, cutting the tip of his right index finger pretty badly. He started to scream and soon there was blood everywhere. I looked at it and realized it was pretty bad. I called for Jason - I just can’t deal with blood when it comes to my kids being hurt. Jason could not get the bleeding stopped. We realized he needed to go to the ER. We rushed him there. What an ordeal! He had cut off the very tip of his finger along with a little portion of his fingernail. We sat there for 3 hours. The doctor came in and cleaned it up, pulled back the tip and decided he could tack the tip back on with a few stitches. They took a big needle to Keaton’s little finger and numbed it. Keaton was in hysterics! After his finger was numb, they stitched it back together and wrapped it up. What a night!
After 2 days, we took him back for a wound check. They said it looked good and that is was healing! Keaton had a hard time returning to the ER. He was traumatized going in there. I don’t blame the little guy! He is supposed to get the stitches out on Friday, but we’ll see. We have had to change the dressing every couple of days and I just can’t see the stitches coming out. Looks very sore and bleeds when we take off the bandage.
Valentine’s Day: We had a memorable Valentine’s Day! My sister Annie’s husband is in Iraq. He e-mailed me a few days before Valentine’s Day and asked if I could get some flowers for Annie. That got me thinking. Annie has always talked about getting a "Flat Daddy" of Jim. If you don’t know what they are, you take a photo of the soldier and blow it up to life size, mount it on cardboard and cut it out - it is like a life size poster of the soldier. So, I thought it would be cool to make a Flat Daddy Jim and have it standing on the doorstep with the flowers. The only problem was time. So, I e-mailed Jim with my idea and he thought that was good. I found a picture of him that would work and had Jason blow it up at work. I glued it to foam board, cut it out and I had a Flat Daddy for Annie. Annie has wanted one all along, but could never get Jim to get her a photo of himself. So I knew Annie would loved this! I told my family about it and we decided to call this mission "OPERATION FLAT DADDY". It all worked out and things just fell into place.
We got the flowers and left Flat Daddy on the porch, rang the doorbell and ran away. It was great! Annie answered the door and started laughing. Then we all came out and said, "Surprise!" We also brought dinner and enjoyed a fun evening with family. I know how depressing it is to have your honey away on Valentine’s. I wanted to make it somehow better for Annie. This was a Valentine’s Day we will never forget. It was fun and we were brightening someone else’s day! Annie really liked it! Here is her response to us:
I don't know how to thank you enough--sacrificing your own Valentine's Day (I know you all have your own traditions that you put on hold for a night or until next year), bringing dinner down, making Flat Daddy, getting me flowers, and driving down to Levan on a week night with your kids. That was really nice of all of you and so thoughtful. I hope you know that I really appreciate it. I try to hold back my emotions cause I really hate to get bawly in front of people--that makes me really embarassed so I just wait until everyone leaves :) But then I get nervous that you'll think I don't appreciate what you do for me. Anyway, thanks again for a very memorable Valentine's Day. I had a lot of fun and now I have a Flat Daddy! I was going to ask though--if anyone took pictures, will you email them to me so I can show Jim?? Thanks again! Love, Annie Anyway . . . it was a lot of fun! Annie is pregnant with their first baby. She is due on March 10 and her honey is on his way home from Iraq for the birth. He leaves Iraq on the 4th and arrives here in Utah around the 6th. I am crossing my fingers that baby Ryan stays put until Jim gets home. I don’t think Flat Daddy Jim would be much help in the delivery room! I have alot of empathy for Annie right now and know how hard it is. But, I also know that she will be a stronger person after going through all of this and she is going to be a wonderful mommy! That is what we have been up to lately. I cannot believe March is just around the corner! Basketball is winding down for the boys and baseball is about to begin. I am tired of the winter weather, but am thankful for the snow we have received this year. With the nice weather the past few days, I have Spring Fever bad. Today I was taking down snowflakes and Valentine’s things in my classroom and was putting up spring items even thought it’s about a month away. Hope all is well with everyone out there in blogland. Be sure to check out my photo album - there are pics of our potential new home, Flat Daddy, as well as some picture of Keaton’s finger! Take care, Amy
12月31日 Only A Few Hours Left of 2007Well . . . 2007 is just about over! I can't believe that 2008 is only 2.5 hours away! We have had a wonderful holiday break and I am absolutely dreading going back to work on Wednesday - it has gone just too fast! It will be good to get back into the swing of things and onto a schedule, though!
Today was a fun day! Jason and I started off by going shopping and returning all of the things that needed exchanging or returning from Christmas. I took back some running shoes to Nordstrom and got some new running shoes at Runner's Advantage. Love those shoes - can you believe that I actually wore out a pair of running shoes?!?! We stopped off at Basket Loft and I bought some "on sale" Christmas goodies and had to go into Bath and Body Works to buy some wallflowers that were on for a killer deal! I love after Christmas sales! After that, we headed over to the distribution center to pick up a few things and back to Fashion Place Mall. I had a few exchanges to make at Eddie Bauer. Jason did real well picking out clothes this year, I only had to exchange 3 things!
After our shopping fun, we went home, got the boys and went to lunch a Olive Garden - I am thinking that Olive Garden is one of my all time fav's! Love that place! We had a yummy lunch and then went and caught a matinee. We saw "Enchanted". I thought it looked kind of lame from the previews, but I really liked it. Jackson mentioned it was kind of "lovey, dovey" and "girly", but I really enjoyed it. Who doesn't love a "happily ever after" ending?!?!?!?
On our way home from the movie, we drove through a few streets that we have been meaning to drive through to see the lights! This one, was absolutely awesome! If you get a chance, you should definitely check it out! We sat and watched that for a while and then headed home!
So, we took the plunge and put our house on the market! We will see what happens and if anyone is interested. We have had one couple walk through it, but that's it. We found a house in a subdivision just a few blocks from our current house. We put an offer on it and it was accepted! The key is the sale of our home, though. We will see what happens! This all kind of makes me nervous - I am so not a risk taker, but we definitely need a larger home! Hopefully it will all work out! We have been busy cleaning, organizing, throwing out junk and hauling stuff and more stuff to a storage shed. Funny how you can collect so much stuff over the years!
Last Friday, me, my Mom and all my sisters went out to lunch at The Cheesecake Factory to celebrate my sister Molly's birthday and also mine. I have been wanting to go to Cheesecake Factory for a long time, but the wait time has just been too long. We decided to just go for it, the wait was only about 30 minutes and the food was yum-o! We had a good time!
One of my resolutions for 2008 is to blog more . . . so we will see if I can keep a resolution for once or not! And of course . . . we've got to have the eating healthy and exercise resolution or it just wouldn't be a new year without that resolution! I am looking forward to the new season of the "Biggest Loser"! I love, love, love that show - so inspirational AND motivational!
I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Year's Eve and Happy 2008! Be sure to take a look in my photo albums at the bottom . . . I added some pics from Thanksgiving and Christmas! 11月10日 Happy Veteran's DayFlags waved, hearts pounded, tears flowed today at a moving tribute for Taylorsville's Fallen Soldiers. My friend Mary's husband, Doug was being honored for his military service at Freedom Shrine at the Jordan River Parkway. SFC. Doug Stone paid the ultimate price, losing his life serving his country this past March while he served in Iraq. I wanted to be there - not only for my friend Mary, but to honor all the Veterans who have served and are currently serving for our freedom. A beautiful plaque was presented to Mary that will be placed on the Freedom Shrine Memorial Wall. A tree was also planted in honor of the two fallen soldiers of Taylorsville - Doug Stone and John Daren "JD" Smith. The remarks made and songs sung were so touching! It was such a nice tribute! It was very thoughtful of the Taylorsville Exchange Club to recognize and remember not only the fallen soldiers, but their families in such a remarkable way! Here is more coverage from the tribute: KSL News Story. Veteran's Day means so much more to me after having Jason serve in Iraq for 18 months. I feel a sense of pride and great patriotism each year when this day rolls around. I am so thankful that he returned safely from his tour of duty and of course, PROUD of my soldier! I thank all the people out there currently serving (particularly my brother-in-law SSG. Jim Nielson of the 145th FA UTNG) and those who have served in the past, especially those who have paid the ultimate price, giving their lives for all of us and this great nation! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
10月31日 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!10月14日 It's About Time I think it's about time that I started blogging again! It's been 14 months since that last time I posted . . . wow, that's bad.
Lots have gone on in that 14 months! I am back to teaching school as a First Grade Teacher and absolutely love it! I am amazed how much progress a litle 6 year old can make in 9 months! It has been a great change from 4th grade to 1st - of course, challenging, but lots of fun, too. That's what I spend the majority of my time doing, work and preparing for work. Our 3 sons keep us pretty busy, too.
Jason accepted a job up in Coalville when he returned from Iraq. This has been a great job for him and he really likes it. He is a Civil Engineer for the N.R.C.S. - Natural Resource Conservation Service.
Jackson turned 14 at the first of this month. Hard to believe that I am the mom of a 14 year old! He decided not to play football this year. He played on a fall baseball league and also has been playing on the Eisenhower School Volleyball Team. He is gearing up for the basketball season to start soon.
Hayden turned 8 in May and got baptized in June. He wanted to play football this year. We kind of wondered if it was a mistake at first. He really struggled with all the conditioning. He wanted to quit, but we thought it would be a good lesson for him to learn committment. Through it all, he has decided that he really likes football. He has even got to carry the ball a few times. Hayden plans to play basketball, too. It probably won't start until after Christmas though. He is in the 3rd grade and loving school!
Keaton a.k.a. "King Keats" rules the roost in our house! He is the typical two year old. Everything is "MINE". Keaton is into whatever sport the boys are into. He is hilarious to watch when it comes to playing baseball and he has picked up on football, too. He is starting to talk more and gets his way most always!
Well . . . that is what the Roper Family is up to . . . hopefully, I can find more time to BLOG about our adventures. I really enjoyed blogging before and having my blog friends. Hopefully, you will hear from me before another 14 months have passed.
8月13日 Glad It's OverLast night the phone rang around 9:00 p.m. and it was Brother Evans from our Bishopric . . . He asked me if I was ready for tomorrow. I sat there racking my brain, trying to figure out what "tomorrow" was. I finally asked him what "tomorrow" was and he said Sunday. I was trying to remember if I was supposed to do something special or what "tomorrow" was. I then started to wonder if Jason committed us to doing something and had forgotten to tell me. It’s funny the millions of things that can run through your head in a matter of a few seconds. Brother Evans then asked me if we had our talks ready. I kind of chuckled and asked him what talks and he went on to tell me that we were speaking in Sacrament Meeting. I told him that was news to us. I don't know who was more surprised - him or us! At first we told Brother Evans we couldn’t do it, but after we hung up the phone, we kind of debated and decided we would rather do it with 12 hours notice rather than have 2 weeks of worry and stress - we could get this over with pretty easily plus have an excuse if our talks were the pits. So Jason got on the phone, called him back and told him we would do it. We got our talks written and all went well. We got a lot of compliments on our talks. I talked on Sacrifice and Jason spoke on Service. We tied both topics into his deployment, what we have learned from it and how we have grown from the deployment experience. I felt pretty good about it. The best thing about it is, IT IS OVER! It's almost like we didn't even have time to get nervous! Keaton has been jabbering so much lately - he loves to hold phones or anything that resembles a phone up to his ear and jabber away. Here are a few photos of him jabbering! 8月9日 Keaton's First Haircut After four people recently commented on how cute our little girl was, we decided it was time to get Keaton a haircut. We took him yesterday. He was a good boy. As Jen cut his hair, you could see him tranform from a baby into a little boy right in front of our eyes. I was sad as she cut off all those cute curls! He's lost that baby look and I am really sad about that - I hate how grown up they look after the first haircut. He is really growing up! On Saturday he will be 14 months old! He is just about walking - he stands and takes a few steps, it won't be long until we are chasing him around! He is into everything and jabbering like crazy! We love the little guy! Here are a few photos from Keaton's first haircut. 7月31日 Adventures in New York We just got back late last night from an awesome vacation! We left late Tueday night, July 17 on the red eye flight. We arrived at JFK around 6 a.m. From there we took a shuttle to our hotel - that was an eye opening experience - we were holding on for dear life - it was quite the ride! The traffic was horrific in New York City or maybe I was just surprised that it was really that busy - the sound of horns honking is second nature to most New Yorkers, but to me it was pretty annoying! I am still wondering how the drivers get away with the way they drive - I don't think I could drive in the city - they are very aggresive drivers. I was amazed with all the sites and actually just being in The Big Apple! After we dropped off our luggage at the hotel, we headed to Yankee Stadium out in the Bronx to watch a game between the Yankees and the Seattle Mariners. We took the Subway to it and that was interesting, also! Life is fast paced there in NYC - what a change from Salt Lakt City! The Subway ride to the stadium was nice to sit and relax for a bit since we hadn't had any sleep! I felt like I was in an oven in the Subway - it was oh so hot and the air was so thick - humidity at it's best! We arrived to the Stadium and found something to eat - we were astonished that our meal was about $75.00 for four of us, but that was just the beginning!
We had great seats at the ballgame even though they were up high, we could still see well! Thank goodness we were in the shade because it was so hot and muggy! After the game, we headed back to the hotel, we stopped at an eatery in a mall and got back to our room around 6:30 p.m. We laid on the bed and that was the end of us - we fell asleep in our clothes and didn't even wake up until the next morning - we were SO tired!
The next day we went out site seeing in the city. We first visited The Empire State Building - we went all the way to the top and it was so neat to see NYC from a bird's eye view! Then we headed to Ground Zero - that was a sombering site - I think I still can't get it through my head that 9/11 really took place there and that those tragic events really did take place - words cannot express the way I felt as I looked around! I tried to imagine the chaos and mayhem that this city experienced during the time of the attacks - I just couldn't imagine what it must have been like!We headed over to Battery Park and saw the Statue of Liberty - it was sunset and it was awesome to see the statue! We didn't go over to the island, but we did ride a ferry by Lady Liberty - what a neat thing to see! After the ferry ride, we headed back and got off the Subway - we wanted to get off in Little Italy to get some Italian food for dinner, but we somehow got off at the wrong stop. We realized it wasn't the best area to be in. Everything had graffiti on it and it was very dark - we were very scared - there was trash everywhere and bums sleeping in the street. We finally got to a restaurant, got a bite to eat and headed back to the hotel. It was pretty late - we had seen some awesome sites so far!.
The next morning we got up early, the shuttle came and picked us up and took us back to JFK to pick up our rental car. From there we headed to Cooperstown, New York - the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was about a 5 hour drive from New York City. I am glad Jason was there to be the driver - it was pretty crazy getting out of the city and took us a good couple of hours just to get out of the city!
Once we arrived to Cooperstown, we found the house we were staying at for the week. It was a cute little colonial home that was decorated so cute. We shared it with a couple other families. We went to the grocery store to buy some things and then we headed to main street and walked around, ate some dinner and then went back for the night. It was fun walking up and down main street - there were some really cute shops and places to buy neat souveniers!
Saturday, we woke up and it was a down pour! I could not believe how hard it was raining! We took Jackson into the Dreams Park for the ball tournament - on the way, we found out the opening ceremonies had been cancelled due to the weather. We took Jackson to his barracks where he would stay for the week and we headed back to our house. Keaton took a nice long nap and we enjoyed visiting with the other families. We all went out to eat to a Steak House that night.
Sunday morning we woke up and it was better weather - we headed to the opening ceremonies for the ball tournament. A few of us moms got picked out of the crowd to participate in the opening ceremonies - they gave us a shirt and we had to do a little dance and sing - it was a nice ceremony. All of the teams paraded around the stadium holding their team banner. There were 96 teams there from all over the US and Canada!
We had two games later that day - they lost both of them only by a few runs - it was a bummer!
The rest of the week included baseball games each day, more shopping, pin trading and a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was fun to watch Jackson's team play, but it was hard to see them lose! They lost the first 4 games and finally won their next 3! One of the games was on the webcast - I called my brother to tell him it was on, and he turned it on just in time to see Jackson hit one over the fence! It was so exciting - that was one of the main things Jackson wanted to do while in Cooperstown - hit a homerun and he did it! He hit another one in the very next game - we were so proud of him! Going into the tournament, they had a 76 seed. They won their first round in the tournament, but then lost the next game so they were out. They played 9 baseball games in 4 days - we were eating, sleeping and drinking baseball - what more could you ask for?
Thursday night was the closing ceremonies - each team member was inducted into the Cooperstwon Dreams Park Hall of Fame. They each received a ring as their individual name was read. It was an awesome opportunity for Jackson to have this chance to shine! After, we enjoyed fireworks and watched the championship game to end a fun filled baseball tournament!
The next morning, we headed back to New York City - we returned the rental car and took a shuttle back into the city. We were starving and went to the first place we saw to get a bite to eat. It was a little deli and we thought it probably wouldn't be that expensive until we looked at the menu and saw the prices! We probably should have got up and left, but we were so hungry we just paid the price - and boy did we pay the price, the food wasn't that great and our bill was again $75 bucks! That's one thing about NYC - everything is pretty spendy and you have to tip for everything! That evening we walked down to Times Square - it was so neat to see all the sites that you see in the movie and on TV! We went to the huge Toys R Us Store - it had a Ferris Wheel inside of it - we rode that, shopped around in there and enjoyed more sites around the Times Square Area and then headed back to the hotel.
Saturday morning Jason and Jackson got up early and headed down to Broadway where they were selling discount tickets to shows. Jason got us 4 tickets to Beauty and the Beast for that afternoon. The show was really neat, I just had to pinch myself that I was really sitting, watching a Broadway Show. The show had such neat effects! It was well worth the money - we really enjoyed the show!
After the show, we went over to Rockefeller Plaza, we saw where they tape the "Today" show and have the Friday concerts. We also saw Radio City Music Hall where the Rockettes perform. We got a bite to eat at a little pizza joint and that was an experience to remember! Jason was carrying the tray of pizza with some bottles of water. It was so busy and trying to maneuver around people was a joke. He went to sit down and a bottle of water fell off the tray. A homeless man was sitting there, reading his newspaper, drinking coffee and eating a bagel. The water fell and knocked over the man's coffee and it spilled everywhere - all over him, his clothing, his bag, his newspaper - EVERYWHERE! He went ballistic - which I don't blame him, but Jason felt so bad - he apologized - it was an accident. He helped him clean up and the guy just kept going on and on. We got him a new cup of coffee and bagel. I watched him drying off the pieces of his newspaper - I couldn't help but feel so bad for him, but he was making it into such a bigger deal than it was. I finally broke down and started to cry - oh I was so ready to get back to Utah! We apologized again and asked what more we could do? We left the pizza place and headed back to the room. We were fit to be tied! We left the kids there and Jason and I went out for a while - just to get away, we walked around, souvenier shopped and stopped for a piece of cheesecake. It was SO good just to spend some time alone!
There are street vendors on every street corner in the city, they try to sell you shirts, purses, sunglasses and don't forget the ROLEX watches. You would walk by and they would say, "Rolex, Rolex!" - of course they are knock offs. We would just crack up because it was just so funny - you just had to hear their tone of voice! We also had to crack up when we saw the Naked Cowboy - he was standing there in his BVD's singing with his guitar - there was also a Naked Cowgirl with only pasties on and a mini skirt with boots. It was very interesting the things you would see. Some things we just had to laugh and roll our eyes at! We headed back to the hotel and went to bed!
Sunday morning, we woke up, checked out the hotel and headed for Central Park! It was SO hot and muggy - we were very excited to head back to Salt Lake City that night - looking forward to the dry heat and get out of the humidity! We walked around the park, played a bit, sat on the grass and took in the sites. We walked over to the toy store that was in movie "BIG" - we saw that huge piano that was in the movie, we thought about purchasing one, but we thought $250,000 was a bit much for a piano. We walked around the city visiting the SONY Store, Disney Store and hit McDonalds just before it was time to leave for the airport. We took a shuttle back to the airport - this time the driver was even more crazy than before, we could not believe how he was driving and wondered if we would make it in one piece. He drove into Queens just to avoid the toll booths. It was pretty interesting! He liked to honk the horn as well! We finally made it to the airport, boarded the plane and was so happy to make it back to Utah - to find out someone had taken my suitcase - we finally got that figured out and returned home around 1 a.m. - it was oh so nice to sleep in our own bed!
It was such a great vacation - we created such wonderful memories together as a family that I will never forget. I was loving having Jason there to help me with the kids and everything else!
Be sure to check out my photo album, I have added tons of pictures from trip!
Now we have school shopping and going back to school to look forward to. Hope all is well with everyone! |
